A Romanian was arrested for 5 years due to stealing $5 million from ATMs and authorities are still cracking down on one more culprit, who is still at large. Robert Mate was the person who got sentenced to prison. He stole money from ATM’s from other people’s savings accounts by stealing other people's card numbers. The theft affected thousands of customers. The date of when this happened is unknown. He used fake ATM cards and other people’s credit and debit cards. On December 13th, this is what KWQC took from the Associated Press, "A federal judge sentenced Robert Mate to 57 months in prison for his role in what the U.S. attorney’s office called one of the largest such conspiracies ever uncovered. It is estimated multiple banks were defrauded out of at least $5 million, and thousands of customers were affected" (KWQC). Time will tell when this case would be a thing of the past. The final culprit is still being hunted, according what ABC news reports.
