On December 10th, 2016, students, teachers, family, and more gathered together at North Scott High School to dance and raise money for kids who have cancer. The afternoon started with lots of dancing, haircuts, a live band, and stories from families about their medical history. Students donated their hair which will be made into wigs for the kids that can’t grow hair because of chemotherapy.
Last year an 8th grade student, Madison Bender, decided to donate her hair for the cause. Madison donated 8 inches! Therefore, I asked her if she ever regretted it, “At first I was really happy, and thought it was cool to help kids who have cancer. But after a day or two I really missed my long hair.” Madison later told me that she was happy she cut her hair because it grew back quickly.
Some people felt a lot of pain after the 8 hours of dancing, including Grace Stutting. She mentioned how she forced herself through the pain to finish the night. Furthermore, I asked her how she felt after the end of the night, “My feet hurt because I danced with my shoes off and it was hard for me to put my shoes on at the end of the night because I knew it would hurt.” Grace was also very tired at the end of the event. Some people were even sitting down because of exhaustion. Technically there is no policy for sitting down but leaders encourage you to keep dancing. Later Grace added, “At times I wanted to sit down but I knew that it was for a good cause and I pushed through.” Although there was pain and exhaustion, in the end it was all worth it because it was for one cause, to raise money to for the kids who have cancer.

A year in comparing when these four girls got their haircut.
